PayPal Holdings said on Monday that it will acquire Curv, an Israeli digital asset security provider, and the payment processing company seeks to strengthen its support for cryptocurrencies.
The transaction is expected to be completed in the first half of 2021, and the terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Curv will be part of PayPal’s recently created department focused on cryptocurrencies.
PayPal said in October last year that it would allow customers to buy, sell and hold cryptocurrency in its online wallet.
With institutional investors including Tesla Inc., Bank of New York Mellon and Square Inc. increasingly participating, the acquisition of Curv comes at a time when the digital currency has soared this year.
