Previously, the rumor that the King of Glory team will get 100 months ‘salary for their year-end bonus has been widely reported on the Internet, although Tencent officially denied this rumor. However, Tencent’s annual bonus has always been very generous, and its employees’ monthly salary has always been the envy of migrant workers.
Tencent had a total of 77,592 employees at the end of September 2020, compared with nearly 7,000 new hires at the end of the second quarter of 2020, according to the company’s third-quarter 2020 financial report.
The total remuneration cost for the July-September period in 2020 was 17.703 billion yuan, according to the financial report.According to the simple average calculation, the average monthly salary of Tencent employees is about 76,000 yuan, a salary increase of about 1,000 yuan compared with the financial data at the end of the second quarter of 2020.
It should be pointed out that the human cost of the enterprise level, including social security, welfare and other non-wage expenses, as well as training costs, will be significantly higher than the amount of income on the employee payroll according to the financial statements, especially the actual after-tax income.
Thus it can be seen that the average level of year-end bonus of Tencent employees is more likely than the market value of 100 shares of Tencent.
This is not the first time Tencent has granted shares to employees. In 2016, on Tencent’s 18th birthday, Chairman and CEO Pony Ma announced that 300 shares of Tencent shares would be granted to each employee.
Tencent has also given stock to employees several times. In July 2017, Tencent issued a total of about 17.87 million new shares to reward 10,800 employees, or 34 percent of its workforce at the time.
As part of the company’s 18th anniversary, 300 shares of Tencent stock will be awarded to each of its employees to thank them for their hard work and share in the company’s growth over the past 18 years, Tencent said. The total value of the shares awarded is about HK $1.7 billion (about 1.5 billion yuan).Based on the stock price and exchange rate at the time, each employee received more than 60,000 Hong Kong dollars (about 50,000 yuan) worth of Tencent shares.
It’s not the first time Tencent’s year-end bonus has sparked heated debate online. On September 30, 2020, Tencent PCG (platform and content business group) gave each employee a Huawei fold-screen phone Mate XS worth 16,999 yuan.At the end of 2019, Tencent Cloud reached its revenue target of 10 billion yuan ahead of schedule, and the company awarded an iPhone11 Pro to all relevant personnel as a reward.
